The Board

The Board of Directors elected by the League’s membership and governs WSBR. The Board has eleven Directors and they are elected at an annual meeting in October. All League members in good standing may run and/or vote to elect members to the Board. The League membership elects 11 people to serve as the Board. The Board members then elects individuals to serve in specific functions like Chief Umpire, Treasurer, and President etc. The Board usually meets monthly on Sunday’s at 4PM at the Senior Civic Center located at 400 North Edgmon Ave in Winter Springs. Board Members Roles

President

Responsibilities: Responsible for all League operations and relations with outside entities such as the City of Winter Springs, Babe Ruth National, State and District officials as well as other Leagues. Presides over all board meetings. Other responsibilities include: resolving all protests within the League, usually by appointing a committee to review and make a recommendation to the President, monitoring the financial integrity and health of the League, obtaining insurance on an annual basis and making sure that the League is getting best value, managing all insurance claims, making sure that all background checks are completed for all League volunteers on an ongoing basis and planning for future the League.

Vice President of Baseball Operations

Responsibilities: Oversees the day to day operations of Baseball including conducting Try-Outs, Draft and making recommendations about the number of teams in each age division and forming new teams as needed. Responsible for local league rules and any needed changes/additions with Board approval. Typically appointed by the President to any committee who will be reviewing the actions of a Manager, Coach or Umpire.

Vice President of Softball Operations

Responsibilities: Oversees the day to day operations of Softball including conducting Try-Outs, Draft and making recommendations about the number of teams in each age division and forming new teams as needed. Responsible for local league rules and any needed changes/additions with Board approval. Typically appointed by the President to any committee who will be reviewing the actions of a Manager, Coach or Umpire. Also performs the duties outlined for the VP of Coaches and Managers due to the size of the Softball Division. Responsibilities also include operation of the Softball Tournament team program.

Secretary

Responsibilities: Maintains all League registration records. Submits all League registration information to Babe Ruth National, State and District as required. . Schedules Board meetings and organizes Board meeting agenda’s based on input from members of the Board. Runs registration for the League with the support of all Board Members.

Treasurer

Responsibilities: Manages all funds collected and disbursed by the League and reports the financial status of the League to the Board. Makes sure the correct funds are collected during registration periods and that any refunds are correct and provided. Provides checks on a timely basis to support League functions. Prepares a budget each year that as best possible reflects the needs of the League based on recent the recent actual experience of the League and takes into account changes in League size.

Player Agent

Responsibilities: Represents the best interest of WSBR players to ensure that every player who has registered is assignment to a team providing that a team exists to serve the players age. Manages the Try-Outs where the evaluation of players is made for assignment to a team. Directs the Draft where the Team Managers select players for their team. Handles all transfer requests of players from one team to another. In doing so the Player Agent attempts to balance the needs of the player (parent) as well as the best interests of the League to insure the positive outcome for all. Obtains and maintains all Babe Ruth birth date cards.

Vice President of Coaches and Managers

Responsibilities: Recruits and recommends all Baseball Managers and Coaches to the President to be nominated and approved by the Board. Works with the VP of Baseball Operations on Local League Rules (Ground Rules) providing active representation of the Managers and Coaches of the League. Typically sits on Committees reviewing issues involving Managers or Coaches. Represents Managers and Coaches interests directly to the Board.

Umpire-in-Chief

Responsibilities: Provides for qualified Umpires at all games and insures safe playing conditions for all players. Provides for recruiting and training for League Umpires. Provides rules training for Managers and Coaches. To keep current with all rules as published by National Babe Ruth Headquarters. To communicate any safety, Manager, Coach or Umpire issue to the President and the Board.

Member of the Board

Responsibilities: Understand and participate in resolution of all issue’s affecting the League.

Commissioners:

About Commissioners: Individuals that focus on and support specific Divisions within the League or perform special duties vital to the League. All Commissioners are appointed by the League President and approved by the Board and represent the Board in their roles.

Equipment Commissioner

Responsibilities: Provides for the equipment needs of the League including uniforms as well as all other gear needed to play Baseball and Softball. Works with and gets input on the needs of Softball from the VP of Softball Operations. Schedules and manages the distribution of all uniforms and equipment. Makes recommendations on best value suppliers to the Board for all uniform and equipment purchases. Works with the League Secretary and Player Agents to forecast equipment needs. Maintains an inventory of League supplied equipment to Managers and accounts for it. Inspects equipment to insure safety and removes all unsafe equipment and replaces it.

T-Ball and Rookies Commissioner, Minors and Majors Commissioner, Juniors and Seniors Commissioner

Responsibilities: Understand the needs and issues of their respective Division and represent them to the Board. Recommendations to the League President for approval by the Board the All-Star Managers Participate in any protest or dispute regarding their division by providing knowledge based on close contact with their division’s Managers and Coaches. Serves on committees formed to look into issues regarding their Division as appointed by the President.
